Pod-Hostel vs 5🌟Hotel

Up until now, I've always said that we'll manage to find our way around any accommodation. And I still believe that today. The boys really get involved with every new accommodation and try to adapt to the new challenges. We have now arrived in Singapore at our small but lovely Pod Hostel. Two of the three boys and I were pretty excited. Who hasn't always wanted to spend the night in a little "cave"... At least I thought so... My wife with claustrophobia saw it a little differently. But I managed to convince her that we would give it a go and that this was just another adventure.

After the first night, during which I hardly slept a wink because someone was constantly coming and going in the corridor, we had a day full of sightseeing. After a few hours we were tired, but knew we didn't want to just go to our caves to hang out. So we spent a few hours in Starbucks. Then more sightseeing and dinner somewhere.

At dinner it was clear to me too. We couldn't go on like this for the next 6 days. We would survive Singapore like this, but we would definitely be able to enjoy it. We need space to relax, space for the children to spread out a bit and space to live. One or two nights in such cramped conditions, okay. That's fine... But not for a week. So we set out to find accommodation for the five of us for the next night in Singapore in high season. 🤦‍♂️

The only thing available for us nearby was a 5-star hotel.

Imagine the scene. We check out of the hostel early with our 5 large suitcases. I carry the suitcases down the long flight of stairs (I still had practice from 2 days ago), then we drag the suitcases a few blocks further and check into this classy place all sweaty. We felt a little out of place. But once we had settled in, we felt right at home. It was just perfect for us. We could cook and wash here, had everything we needed and had our little oasis in this big city.

That's when I realized something. Money doesn't make you happy, but money can make your life easier at certain times. And yet, in our conversations with the boys, we explained that it's important to us that we learn to be happy, whether we're in a pod hostel or a 5-star hotel.
